A tragic incident in Jhabuchak village, under Dulhinbazar police station in Patna, Bihar, resulted in the death of a woman, Radhika Devi, allegedly due to police action. The incident has caused outrage, with local residents taking to the streets and blocking the Paliganj Masaurhi road near Ichipur, placing the woman’s body on the road and setting up a blockade.
Police from several stations in Paliganj responded to the scene and eventually cleared the road. The deceased woman’s daughter-in-law, Jeera Kumari, recounted the events, stating that police officers entered their home late on Friday night, allegedly assaulting her and her mother-in-law. Radhika Devi collapsed and became unconscious during the altercation.
Despite attempts to revive her, Radhika Devi did not recover and was later pronounced dead. The family is seeking justice for her death. The incident is linked to a prior case where Poonam Devi had reported her daughter’s abduction, but the police initially failed to register the complaint or take action.
After the victim appealed to the DGP, an investigation was ordered by the Patna SSP, and the investigation, led by Paliganj DSP 2, found police negligence. The station in-charge of Dulhinbazar was suspended as a result. The police raid was aimed at arresting suspects in the abduction case.
DSP 2 Umeshwar Kumar Chaudhary explained that the deceased woman’s sons were implicated in the abduction. An altercation occurred during the raid, but the exact cause of the woman’s death is yet to be determined. A medical team has been formed for the post-mortem, and legal action will be taken if police are found responsible. The body has been sent to Patna AIIMS for post-mortem.
