The Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar has revealed substantial changes in voter numbers across the state. The data indicates a statewide reduction, with millions of voters removed from the rolls due to death, relocation, or duplication.
According to the initial draft, the total number of voters has decreased from 78,969,844 to 72,405,756. The SIR process has identified over 22 lakh deceased voters and over 36 lakh voters who have either permanently moved or cannot be traced. Furthermore, over 7 lakh voters were found to be registered in multiple locations. The ECI is currently accepting claims and objections, with the final list due to be published on September 1st.
Several districts, including Patna, have experienced significant drops in voter numbers. West Champaran saw a decrease of nearly 2 lakh voters, while East Champaran lost over 3 lakh. Purnia’s voter count fell by over 2.7 lakh. Vaishali and Samastipur also recorded considerable reductions.
Specifically, Patna saw a reduction of approximately 4 lakh voters. In Saran, the voter count decreased by more than 2.7 lakh. The upcoming weeks will determine if these figures will shift based on the ongoing claims and objections process.
