A gruesome event has shaken the Rohtas district of Bihar, where a temple priest is accused of murdering the Mahant. The priest is alleged to have killed the Mahant using a stone early Friday morning. The suspect, named Subhash Chaubey from Bahera village, reportedly trapped other temple occupants in a room before fleeing after the attack.
The incident unfolded at the Vijay Raghav Temple in the Gandhi Nagar area. According to eyewitness accounts, the Mahant, Shyam Narayan Ji Maharaj, descended from the roof around 8 a.m. to get milk when the priest attacked him from behind. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the Mahant succumbed to his injuries en route.
The temple is currently undergoing renovations, with visible damage to windows, doors, and walls. The priest allegedly used items from the construction site to carry out the assault. During the incident, several other monks and devotees were present. The police were notified and have initiated an investigation, taking the deceased’s body for a post-mortem examination.
Locals reported that the Mahant suffered severe head wounds and bled profusely. The priest had been requesting leave from the Mahant, which was refused, sparking a disagreement. The priest also had an advance salary, and the Mahant demanded it back, along with the priest’s departure. It is believed that this financial dispute and the denial of leave provoked the attack. The police are actively pursuing the suspect.
