At a ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution’ rally organized by Imarat-e-Sharia in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition, strongly criticized the Waqf Amendment Act 2025. He asserted that India belongs to all its citizens, not just a select few. He addressed a large gathering of Muslims protesting the Act, claiming that it aims to seize Waqf properties and undermine the voting rights of Muslims, backward classes, and Dalits.
Yadav argued that there are efforts to destabilize the nation, but they would resist. He highlighted a recent Election Commission notification requiring 80 million people to re-verify their documents, but vowed to stand with them. He emphasized the sacrifices made by people of all faiths in building the country.
Tejashwi Yadav declared that the Act would be nullified in Bihar if his government comes to power. Akhtarul Iman of AIMIM condemned it as a conspiracy against minorities. The opposition contends that the law undermines the Waqf Board’s autonomy and grants greater authority to district magistrates. The central government, on the other hand, claims that the Act is intended to enhance transparency, promote women’s involvement, and prevent misuse of Waqf properties. The Supreme Court is currently considering the Act’s validity, with a decision pending.
During the event, Tejashwi Yadav narrowly escaped an incident. While preparing to speak at Gandhi Maidan, a drone came close to his face but he ducked and a youth knocked it down. He quickly recovered and continued.
