The historic city of Rajgir, Bihar, is preparing to host the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship-2025, a prestigious competition in the Asian continent. The event, scheduled to begin on Friday, will showcase the best eight men’s and eight women’s teams vying for the Asian title. The championship will include a total of 192 male and female athletes from nine countries, along with 32 coaches, support staff, and 50 technical officials. The two-day event will run from August 9th to 10th, featuring 40 matches. The Sports Minister of Bihar will inaugurate the event, with the Rural Development Minister as the chief guest. Participating countries in the men’s category include China, Hong Kong, UAE, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and India. The women’s category will feature teams from China, Hong Kong, UAE, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and India. The Rajgir International Sports Complex, where the event will take place, is also set to host the Hero Cup Asian Hockey Championship later in August. The championship is particularly significant for Bihar as it will include four female players and two male players from Bihar in the Indian Under-20 teams. Teams from different countries have already begun arriving in Rajgir, with the Chinese teams already present. All teams will receive a traditional welcome at the Patna airport and will be accommodated with high-level security in Rajgir. Rugby India’s President Rahul Bose mentioned the intensive preparation of the Indian teams, which includes a month-long training camp. The Indian teams have been equipped with world-class coaches, including Francisco Hernandez and Kiano Fourie.
