Rahul Gandhi, the prominent Congress figure, is currently leading a Voter Rights Yatra across Bihar, and his plans for an overnight stay in Darbhanga have been disrupted. The initial arrangement was to use the Jeevachghat High School for the night’s rest, but the district administration refused permission. The administration’s rationale was the school’s primary function as an educational institution, with concerns about potential interference with the students’ studies.
The overnight stay has been moved to the Fakhruddin Teacher Training College campus. The change of venue required permission from the Social Welfare Department, which was not obtained, leading to the shift. Congress leader Dr. Madan Mohan Jha confirmed the adjustments, assuring that the yatra will still arrive in Darbhanga on the evening of August 26th, as previously scheduled, including the overnight stay.
The itinerary for Rahul Gandhi includes arriving in Darbhanga at 7 p.m. on August 26th. The night’s stay will be held at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Teachers Training College campus, near NH-27 in Darbhanga, with the yatra continuing from that location on August 27th morning. The route will take the yatra to Muzaffarpur via NH-27, passing through various locations like Gausaghat, Gangwara, Kathalbari, Bhandar Chowk, Bela Mod, Bagh Mod, Kadirabad Shivdhara, and the Bazaar Samiti.
According to former Congress president Madan Mohan Jha, who is also the program in-charge, the initial plans involved Jeevachghat School, but administrative approval was not secured due to the school’s nature. The revised location is the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Teachers Training College campus, along with the adjoining vacant space.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress MP, is expected to participate in the Voter Rights Yatra, with her schedule in Darbhanga confirmed. However, the finalized itinerary will be shared the day before her visit. Additionally, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, may also join on August 27th.
The Voter Rights Yatra was launched on August 17th in Rohtas, Bihar, by Rahul Gandhi. The primary objectives are to challenge alleged vote irregularities and promote fair voter registration. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and VIP chief Mukesh Sahni are accompanying Rahul. Throughout the journey, Rahul Gandhi has been critical of the central government and the Election Commission. The yatra is scheduled to culminate on September 1st with a rally in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.
