A new 6-lane Ganga bridge has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, connecting Aunta (Mokama) and Simaria (Begusarai) in the Begusarai district of Bihar. The bridge is a key part of a larger 8.150-kilometer project, with the bridge itself measuring 1.865 kilometers in length. The leaders took a tour of the newly opened bridge following the inauguration.
A vibrant cultural program was held to celebrate the Prime Minister’s arrival. Large crowds gathered near the 6-lane bridge, enthusiastically welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The leaders responded to the greetings by waving to the assembled people.
The Prime Minister also participated in a roadshow during the event. As the procession moved forward, thousands of people along the roadside voiced their support for PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar. The construction of this 6-lane bridge, which runs parallel to the Rajendra Setu, cost 1871 crore rupees.
The bridge marks a significant improvement in road connectivity between North and South Bihar. Previously, heavy vehicles were forced to travel an additional 100 kilometers due to the condition of the older Rajendra Setu. This new bridge reduces the travel distance to only 8 kilometers, resulting in savings in time and fuel, and also decreasing logistics expenses.
Local businesses and enterprises are anticipated to benefit from the lower logistics costs. The improved connectivity will benefit northern Bihar districts like Supaul, Madhubani, Araria, and Begusarai, as well as the southern Bihar districts of Sheikhpura, Nawada, and Lakhisarai. Industries such as the Indian Oil Corporation Limited Refinery, Barauni Thermal Power Station, Barauni Sudha Dairy, and Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited will be strengthened. The bridge will also aid in the easier transportation of agricultural products like Makhana, bananas, milk, and maize to major marketplaces, thus promoting economic activity and fostering new job prospects.
