A concerning practice involving the adulteration of potatoes has been exposed in Patna, Bihar. The Food Safety Administration took action after discovering that vendors were using chemicals and red soil to give old potatoes a fresh appearance. Raids targeting the Meethapur and Meena Bazaar markets led to the confiscation of a significant amount of these chemically treated potatoes. This process, which made the potatoes appear new, raised serious health concerns for anyone consuming them.
According to Food Safety Officer Ajay Kumar, the potatoes were being sourced from Chhattisgarh and delivered by truck. The potatoes were then bought by local traders and resold throughout various localities. Approximately two truckloads of the altered potatoes were seized during the raid led by the Food Safety Officer.
