A prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Rajkumar Rai, was murdered in Patna on Wednesday evening. The shooting occurred in the vicinity of Rajendra Nagar Terminal around 10 PM. Law enforcement officials, including Patna East SP Parichay Kumar, are investigating the crime. The primary focus of the investigation includes reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants and determining the motive behind the attack.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that Rai was involved in both political activities and land dealings. Police are exploring all potential causes related to these aspects of Rai’s life. After being shot, Rai sought refuge in a nearby shop, but was later declared dead at the hospital. The police have recovered evidence, including shell casings, from the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working diligently to apprehend those responsible and uncover the full circumstances of the killing.
The incident involved an ambush where the attackers opened fire indiscriminately near Rai’s house. The victim attempted to escape by entering a shop, where the attackers pursued him and fired several more rounds. One bullet struck a refrigerator in the shop, shattering the glass.
