Odisha is gearing up for a major transition to electric mobility, as the Commerce & Transport and Energy Departments held a crucial brainstorming session on the Odisha Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0. The primary goal is to ensure that 50% of all new vehicle registrations are Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) by 2036. The push towards EVs has already shown progress, with EV registrations rising from 1.16% in 2021 to 8.71% by June 20, 2025. The state has over 550 Public Charging Stations (PCS) and plans to expand this infrastructure. The revised policy will extend incentives, incentivize CPOs, and create a dedicated EV fund. The state will use the PM e-DRIVE Scheme for financial support. The state is committed to becoming a leading EV state in India, promoting green mobility, and reducing carbon emissions, as part of the broader Odisha Vision 2036, which aims for 50% adoption of Electric and Alternate Fuel Vehicles.
