In a recent announcement, the Odisha government has increased the cessation benefit for its employees appointed on an ad hoc basis. The decision was made before the Rath Yatra. The previous benefit was a lump sum of Rs 1.5 lakh upon the end of service. This has been revised to Rs 2.5 lakh, as approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The increased benefit will be provided to ad hoc employees upon the end of their service. It will also be applicable to those who are regularized but have served less than five years. Those who have served more than five years in a regular capacity will receive a minimum gratuity of Rs 2.5 lakh upon retirement. The government also stated that this gratuity will increase by 10% every two years. Departments will be able to independently implement this increase.
