A new six-lane bridge, spanning 1.8 kilometers and costing ₹1871 crore, is nearing completion over the Ganges River in Begusarai, Bihar. This infrastructure project, which is part of the Aunta-Simaria project, is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 22, 2025. The bridge, constructed parallel to the existing Rajendra Setu, will significantly reduce travel time and distance between North and South Bihar, particularly for heavy vehicles. This will lead to substantial savings in fuel and operational costs.
The bridge will establish a direct link between Mokama in Patna district and Begusarai, enhancing connectivity to key areas in North Bihar such as Supaul, Madhubani, Araria, and beyond. The project, initiated in 2018 and completed in May 2025, aims to improve the transportation of goods and people, thereby boosting regional development. The new bridge will also provide improved access to the pilgrimage site of Simaria Dham, the birthplace of the renowned poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar.
