The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in several North Indian states within the next 48 hours. This includes Delhi, Chandigarh, and parts of Haryana, where the monsoon is anticipated to bring relief from the ongoing humid conditions. The monsoon’s progress is also expected in Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir by June 24th, as per the IMD.
The monsoon has already advanced into most of Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Kashmir, and parts of Jammu and Punjab. The anticipated rainfall in Delhi is expected to be light to moderate, which will likely provide respite. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees below the average. A yellow alert has been issued by the IMD for Delhi.

The IMD also forecasts the southwest monsoon to advance into parts of Rajasthan and Punjab, along with Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and the remaining parts of Jammu within two days. The arrival of the monsoon in these areas is expected in the next two days.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for specific regions, including sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Eastern Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Assam, Meghalaya, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Further, heavy rain is likely in Uttarakhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Western Rajasthan, and Western Madhya Pradesh. Isolated areas of Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam have already experienced heavy rainfall.
