The Jan Shatabdi Express, en route from Jhajha, Bihar, to Howrah, experienced two fire incidents within a short distance, causing significant disruption and fear among passengers. The first incident involved a wheel fire at a railway station, which was extinguished, allowing the train to continue. However, smoke reappeared from the wheels at the next stop, leading to widespread alarm.
The train was delayed for a considerable time at Rajla railway station due to a fire in one of its wheels. A second incident occurred approximately 15 kilometers away, between Rajla and Simultala stations. Passengers, fearing for their safety, panicked and scattered.
The fire was brought under control, and the train was allowed to proceed. Yet, smoke was again observed emanating from the train’s wheel before it reached the home signal of Simultala station. The train was halted, and passengers were forced to disembark. Railway personnel attributed the incidents to brake binding, which was subsequently addressed.
