Approximately 20 individuals in Lavapur Narayan village, Mahnar, Hajipur district, Bihar, are currently receiving treatment after falling ill due to eating jackfruit. The affected individuals were initially taken to private hospitals and Mahnar Hospital before being referred to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for more comprehensive care.
Families of the patients reported that the jackfruit, which was ripe, was distributed on Friday. Symptoms including stomach pain, vomiting, and fever emerged soon after consumption. These symptoms afflicted about 20 people. The patients, including children and women, were admitted to private hospitals and Mahnar Hospital before being moved to the Sadar Hospital.
Dr. A.K. Yadav from Sadar Hospital confirmed that 14 patients are admitted and being treated. He indicated that the illness stemmed from the jackfruit consumption and appears to be a case of food poisoning. Baby Devi, a parent of one of the sick children, stated that their neighbor, Asha Devi, had distributed the jackfruit on Friday. It was consumed by women, children, and elderly residents of the village.
