In a move to aid sugarcane farmers, the Bihar government has launched a new initiative. The Sugarcane Industries Department inaugurated a portal under the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme on Tuesday, enabling online applications for assistance. The financial allocation for the scheme in the 2025-26 fiscal year is 10 crore rupees.
The scheme is designed to lower the expenses associated with sugarcane farming, boosting the net earnings of farmers while also improving sugarcane seed treatment. Modern agricultural implements will enable the planting of sugarcane seeds at scientifically recommended spacings. Advanced tools are also crucial for the effective control of pests and weeds.
Eligible sugarcane farmers in the state can apply online using their 13-digit DBT number through the departmental Cane Care portal, accessible at https://ccs.bihar.gov.in and https://sugarcanemech.bihar.gov.in. The scheme offers subsidies to support the use of modern equipment from field preparation to harvesting. A farmer can apply for subsidies on up to three agricultural machines, submitting a separate application for each. The program includes a list of 33 machines for individual farmers and provides for the establishment of machinery banks, benefiting groups of farmers. Selected applicants must pay the remaining amount after subsidy to the listed vendor within 14 days of receiving the approval letter.
