In Odisha, nearly 20.58 lakh ration card holders face suspension due to non-compliance with the e-KYC verification process. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra confirmed that the deadline for e-KYC verification has passed, and action will be taken against those who missed it. The e-KYC initiative, launched in August 2024, aims to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries from the food security schemes. While the deadline was extended previously, those who have not completed the verification will now have their cards suspended. Over the next three months, the affected individuals will not receive their rice allocations. This measure is intended to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries continue to access subsidized rations. Those who complete the e-KYC process during the grace period will have their ration cards reinstated. The government will deactivate cards for those who don’t comply. The National Food Security Act (NFSA) supports over 3.25 crore people in the state, and the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) covers an additional 6.48 lakh. Regarding paddy procurement, the government has procured 19 lakh metric tonnes during the current Rabi season, up from 12 lakh metric tonnes last season. Paddy procurement will continue for farmers with tokens.
