A woman from Bhagalpur, Bihar, tragically took her own life by hanging herself. The disturbing part was that she took this extreme step in the presence of her husband and daughter. The husband was reportedly filming the incident while encouraging her to commit suicide. The daughter, witnessing her mother’s actions, was crying, while the husband continued to film. The woman’s death came after she was seen struggling and eventually succumbing to the hanging.
The woman, who was from Kahalgaon, resided in Delhi with her husband and daughter. The primary cause of her distress and subsequent suicide was believed to be financial difficulties. She was burdened by a loan of four lakh rupees from a finance company, which led to constant arguments between the couple. The persistent conflict over the loan was cited as a significant factor in her decision.
A live video of the suicide is available. In this video, the husband is seen seemingly encouraging the deceased to kill herself. The daughter’s voice can also be heard in the video. The child was crying. The video, which is 1 minute and 12 seconds long, shows the woman using a box and a bucket to create a noose with a piece of cloth from a ceiling fan hook, before hanging herself. The father told his daughter to stop crying and quieted her during the incident. The incident took place in the Ghaziabad police station area of Delhi.
The deceased, identified as Chandni Devi (31), hailed from Kahalgaon, Bhagalpur. She had been married to Vidyanand Rai, a resident of the Pipra police station area in Muzaffarpur district, for 12 years. The couple had recently acquired a loan of around four lakh rupees from a microfinance institution. The husband’s inability to repay the loan led to constant pressure from finance company representatives to settle the debt. Chandni Devi would often question her husband regarding the loan repayment, which frequently resulted in disputes. This constant stress and conflict culminated in the woman taking her own life.
According to the deceased’s brother, Rakesh Mandal, his sister’s brother-in-law informed them of the tragic event and also threatened them, warning them not to come to Delhi. The deceased leaves behind three children, with the youngest being five years old. The family is devastated. The woman’s body is currently at the mortuary. The police have apprehended the husband, but the family has not filed a formal complaint, possibly due to fear, and they are avoiding the Ghaziabad police station.
