Bihar’s political landscape is witnessing a heated debate over the state’s voter list ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. Critics are scrutinizing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, alleging inaccuracies, including the inclusion of deceased voters and the exclusion of living ones. Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent RJD leader, raised concerns that his name was missing from the draft voter list despite completing the required enumeration form. He emphasized the impact on his ability to contest the elections. The JDU responded, accusing Yadav of intentionally misinforming the public. Yadav addressed a press conference in Patna and said that despite entering his EPIC number, his details could not be found in the system. The Patna district administration stated that Yadav’s name is present, but with altered polling station and serial numbers. Yadav questioned the extent of changes to the voter list. The Election Commission swiftly refuted Yadav’s claims and affirmed that his name is listed in the draft electoral roll. JDU’s chief spokesperson, Neeraj Kumar, criticized Yadav. The SIR process is designed to ensure accurate voter registration, and the Election Commission has provided a website where voters can check their details. Objections to the roll can be filed between August 1st and September 1st, 2025.
