The Bihar government has approved Rs 882.87 crore for the construction of the Mata Janaki temple at Punora Dham in Sitamarhi. The project will be executed in three stages, encompassing the upgrade of the existing temple for Rs 137.34 crore, development of tourism infrastructure with an investment of Rs 728 crore, and maintenance costs of Rs 16.62 crore over a decade. The decision was finalized during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, which greenlit a total of 24 proposals. The historical Punora Dham, revered as the birthplace of Goddess Sita, is of considerable religious and tourist importance. The temple is being built akin to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation is overseeing the project’s implementation, including tendering and execution, under the EPC model. As a crucial component of the Ramayana Circuit, the initiative aims to boost tourism and connectivity between Ayodhya and Punora Dham, thereby catering to the spiritual aspirations of pilgrims.
