The unrest in Nepal, sparked by youth protests, has intensified significantly. Despite the imposition of restrictions on social media, the protests continue unabated. In response to the escalating demonstrations in Nepal, the state of Bihar in India has heightened its security measures. The six districts of Bihar that share a border with Nepal are under a state of high alert, with both police and security agencies closely monitoring the situation.
The international border crossings for the districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, and Kishanganj have been sealed. This directive came from the Bihar Police Headquarters. A complete ban has been placed on the movement of tourists, and local residents are being subjected to thorough checks before being permitted to cross the border.
Increased patrolling is evident around the border outposts and in the surrounding villages.
The Border Security Force (BSF), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and other security and intelligence units are operating on high alert, as per the instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Police Headquarters has issued directives to the district magistrates and police superintendents in the border districts. They are instructed to coordinate with their counterparts in the neighboring districts. Joint patrols, involving the police and the SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal), are being conducted in the vicinity of border outposts and villages.
Specific orders have been issued to the police and SSB personnel.
Intelligence agencies are actively monitoring the happenings in Nepal near the border regions. The police and SSB personnel have been ordered to remain prepared to manage any unforeseen incidents. The Police Headquarters’ control room is regularly receiving reports from the Superintendents of Police in the bordering districts. Authorities have indicated that they will assist any Indian nationals who may be stranded within the Nepal border regions.
ADG (Law and Order) Pankaj Kumar Darad stated that the international border has been sealed until normalcy returns to Nepal. Tourist movement has been completely prohibited.
