As the Bihar assembly elections approach, the political arena is heating up with active campaigning. The Congress party is focusing its efforts on election preparations. The Bihar Pradesh Congress Screening Committee will hold meetings on August 13th and 14th at Sadaqat Ashram. Furthermore, Dr. Shashibhushan Prasad, spokesperson for the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), marked Raksha Bandhan by celebrating with visually impaired girls at Antar Jyoti Balika Vidyalaya in Patna. Here is a snapshot of the major political developments in Bihar.
1. Congress Screening Committee Meetings Scheduled:
The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee will host screening committee meetings on August 13th and 14th, 2025, at Sadaqat Ashram, in preparation for the upcoming 2025 assembly elections. These meetings will feature discussions with potential candidates from different districts about the political landscape. According to Rajesh Rathore, Chairman of the Pradesh Congress Media Department, in-charge secretaries will gather details from candidates from their districts and present them to the Screening Committee. The in-charges will meet with prospective candidates.
On August 13th, in-charge secretaries Sushil Pasi and Devendra Yadav will interact with potential candidates from West Champaran, East Champaran, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Nalanda, Patna City, Patna Rural 1 and 2, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, and Gaya districts. On August 14th, 2025, in-charge secretaries Devendra Yadav and Shahnawaz Alam will meet with potential candidates from Jehanabad, Arwal, Aurangabad, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, and Khagaria districts.
2. Congress’s Tiranga Yatra for August Kranti Diwas:
The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee organized a Tiranga March from Sadaqat Ashram to Shaheed Smarak on Saturday to honor the 83rd anniversary of the ‘Quit India Movement’. The party paid tribute to the martyrs at the Shaheed Smarak and reaffirmed their commitment to national unity and integrity. The Tiranga Yatra followed a route through Sadaqat Ashram, LCT Ghat, Rajapur, Boring Road Chauraha, High Court Mor, and Veerchand Patel Path, before concluding at the Shaheed Smarak, located near the Assembly gate.
Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram led the Congress members in a pledge after the floral tribute at the Shaheed Smarak. He emphasized the nation’s legacy of sacrifice, dedication, and the role of martyrs. He stated that Congress members pledge to uphold the unity and integrity of the country. He added that their history is built on sacrifice and contribution.
3. Rakhi Celebrations with Visually Impaired Girls:
Dr. Shashibhushan Prasad, the state spokesperson of Lok Janshakti Party, Ram Vilas, celebrated Raksha Bandhan with visually impaired girls at the Antar Jyoti Balika Vidyalaya in Kumhrar, Patna. The girls tied rakhis on his wrists. Dr. Prasad distributed sweets and clothes to the students and promised ongoing support to the girls. He also provided financial aid to the school.
4. BJP MLA’s Gesture for Orphan Children:
Dr. Sanjeev Chaurasia, BJP MLA from the Digha assembly constituency, provided a meal for orphan children at Rajvanshi Nagar, Patna, on Raksha Bandhan. The orphan girls also tied rakhis on his wrist. JDU leader Kamal Nopani and other social workers were present.
5. CM Nitish Kumar’s Raksha Sutra Ritual:
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tied a raksha sutra to a tree at Rajdhani Vatika in Patna on Saturday to mark Raksha Bandhan and ‘Bihar Tree Protection Day.’ The CM also planted a sapling there. The initiative ‘Bihar Tree Protection Day’ was launched on August 13, 2012, with the goal of raising environmental awareness, protecting plants, and promoting afforestation.
Attendees included Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr. Sunil Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department Harjot Kaur, Special Officer to the Chief Minister Gopal Singh, Patna Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Thyagarajan SM, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Prabhat Kumar Gupta, along with other senior officials.
