A comprehensive training program for junior engineers and technical supervisors took place in Patna, focusing on enhancing bridge construction quality and technical skills within Bihar’s engineering workforce. The event was graced by Rural Works Department Minister Ashok Chaudhary.
Minister Chaudhary highlighted the government’s commitment, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership, to connect every rural area with improved infrastructure, reducing travel time to Patna to four hours. The initiative is also designed to foster self-reliance and progress within the state.
The training emphasized the importance of modern techniques, including deep foundation methods, used to ensure the longevity and safety of bridges, especially in challenging terrains or with heavy traffic. Discussions also covered aspects like design, soil testing, construction processes, load testing, and safety protocols.
The program also underscored the success of the Chief Minister Rural Setu Yojana, with 649 new bridge projects planned for the fiscal year 2024-25, backed by a substantial investment. Engineers are instructed to adhere to a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for quality assurance.
Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar Singh, at the event, underscored the importance of quality in bridge construction, and outlined plans for phased advanced training for senior engineers to further improve technical capabilities within the department. The event witnessed participation from numerous engineers and technical staff who engaged in direct dialogue with technical experts.
The state has already completed around 2,500 bridge construction projects, while 950 projects are in various stages of progress. The Engineer-in-Chief directed the provision of essential materials to all engineers and supervisors involved in bridge construction.
