As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly elections, new allegations have surfaced, primarily concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s electoral roll. Critics have highlighted reported issues, like including deceased persons in the voter list while excluding the names of living citizens. Tejashwi Yadav, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)’s CM candidate, has stated that his name is missing from the draft voter list, despite having completed the necessary enumeration form during the special revision process. He questioned how he would participate in the forthcoming assembly elections. The Janata Dal (United) responded, accusing Tejashwi of spreading misinformation. Addressing a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi stated that his name was not in the electoral roll, and he inquired about how he would contest the elections. He also noted that even after entering his EPIC number, the information was not found in the system. The Patna district administration immediately clarified that Tejashwi Yadav’s name is on the voter list, though his polling station and serial number have been changed. Tejashwi questioned the extent of such changes, suggesting a plot to remove names from the voter list. The JDU’s chief spokesperson called Tejashwi a ‘political fraud’. The Election Commission issued a statement refuting the claims, affirming Tejashwi’s inclusion in the draft electoral roll. The ongoing events are contributing to the tense political atmosphere in Bihar, especially with the elections approaching. The draft electoral roll has been released, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll is currently in progress in Bihar. This unique process invites objections to discrepancies from voters and political parties.
