As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly elections, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has become a focal point of controversy. Allegations of inaccuracies, including the presence of deceased individuals and the absence of living citizens, have emerged. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s CM candidate, has alleged that his name is not present in the Election Commission’s draft voter list, despite submitting the required enumeration form. This has raised questions about his ability to participate in the upcoming elections. The Janata Dal (United) responded by accusing Yadav of spreading misinformation about the voter list. During a press conference, Yadav emphasized that his name was missing, even after providing his EPIC number. The Patna district administration immediately responded, confirming Yadav’s registration but indicating changes to his polling station and serial number. Yadav voiced concerns about how many voter details had been altered, viewing the issue as a plot to remove voters. JDU’s Neeraj Kumar criticized Yadav, calling him a “political fraud.” The Election Commission clarified that Yadav’s name is listed, discrediting his claims. The ongoing SIR process in Bihar is designed to identify and rectify discrepancies in the voter list, with objections accepted between August 1 and September 1, 2025. The Election Commission aims to ensure that all eligible voters are included in the electoral roll. The last intensive revision took place in 2003; voters can check their details on the ECI website.
