As Bihar prepares for assembly elections later this year, Tej Pratap Yadav, formerly of the RJD, has launched a new political party called ‘Janshakti Janata Dal.’ He visited the Election Commission on August 17th to initiate the registration process.
Tej Pratap, accompanied by the party’s leadership, met with the Chief Electoral Officer to submit the necessary documents. The party was originally established in 2020, and a close associate of Tej Pratap contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under the ‘Janshakti Janata Dal’ banner, using the flute as their election symbol.
Tej Pratap’s visit followed a notice from the Election Commission to various parties in the state, requesting them to renew their registration with the required documentation. This has fueled speculation that Tej Pratap will lead the new party.
The Election Commission recognized Janshakti Janata Dal on Monday. Tej Pratap spent about half an hour with the Chief Electoral Officer and registered the party under his name. When he spoke to the media after the meeting, he said he was addressing the deletion of voter names in the Mahua assembly constituency.
Tej Pratap also commented on the ongoing ‘Vot Adhikar Yatra’ by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, stating that it would be ineffective. He advocated focusing on issues such as jobs and education, criticizing the current focus.
Tej Pratap’s actions follow his six-year expulsion from the RJD after his 12-year relationship with Anushka Yadav was publicized on social media. His father, Lalu Yadav, the RJD leader, made the decision. Recently, Tej Pratap declared his intention to run as an independent candidate from the Mahua constituency, which he considers his primary area of work.
