The political atmosphere in Bihar is heating up as the Mahagathbandhan accuses the BJP and the Election Commission of attempting to manipulate the voter list ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. At a press conference, the alliance, including the RJD, voiced strong concerns, claiming the BJP is plotting to disenfranchise vulnerable communities. Tejashwi Yadav, former Deputy Chief Minister, led the charge, accusing the BJP of a systematic effort to remove names of the poor and marginalized from the voter rolls.
He stated that a new voter list is being prepared, replacing the existing one with 8 crore voters, calling it a dangerous move. He also criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, implying they are working together to undermine democracy in Bihar to weaken the opposition.
Deepankar Bhattacharya, a CPI (ML) leader, questioned the timing and motives behind the move. He stated that the attempt to create a new voter list, especially when the elections are near is undemocratic.
