In a recent move, the Congress party has released a Bhojpuri song-based video targeting the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing them of vote manipulation in the upcoming Bihar elections. The video employs the phrase “Votva Chor Lagela,” meaning “The vote thief seems,” to underscore the party’s claims of electoral misconduct. The song further criticizes the BJP and the ECI, alleging that they are involved in corrupt practices related to voting procedures.
The video includes specific accusations of voter irregularities, such as the presence of multiple entries for the same individual and the removal of names from the voter lists. These claims are part of a broader strategy by the Congress to challenge the BJP and the ECI’s conduct. Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, has also criticized the ECI for alleged bias and has launched a ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Bihar to address these concerns.
The Congress’s campaign also points to instances like Deputy CM Vijay Sinha’s name appearing in multiple voter lists, along with the reported disappearance of a retired IAS officer and his wife from the rolls. Furthermore, the video highlights instances of 22 deceased individuals still listed as voters, with their relatives failing to complete the required forms, and the presence of 230 individuals registered at a single address in the town of Jumui.
The use of a Bhojpuri song reflects the Congress’s efforts to engage with voters through local cultural elements, in order to disseminate its message in a more relatable format.
