The Election Commission is actively preparing for the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. As part of this process, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, will conduct a two-day visit to Bihar on October 4th and 5th. The purpose of the visit is to review the election preparations, with meetings scheduled with the Chief Electoral Officer and other state officials.
A meeting of the observers appointed by the commission is scheduled in Delhi on Friday, prior to the CEC’s visit. This meeting will gather election observers, police, and other relevant officials. The announcement of election dates typically follows a visit by a full member of the Election Commission to a state. Consequently, the announcement of the Bihar election dates is anticipated to be made after October 5th.
The Election Commission has appointed 470 central observers, including 320 IAS and 60 IPS officers, to oversee the Bihar assembly elections. These observers will also be deployed for by-elections in eight other states. The meeting for these observers will be held at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in Dwarka, starting at 10 AM on Friday.
The final voter list has been released by the Election Commission after the Systematic Inclusion and Revision (SIR) process, with 1.4 million new voters added. Individuals can check their details on the voter list via a link available on the commission’s website. Detailed information about the voter list can be accessed at https://voters.eci.gov.in/.
Before the SIR process, Bihar had 78.9 million voters as of June 24th. The draft list, however, removed 6.5 million voters, resulting in a total of 72.4 million. The draft list also removed 400,000 ineligible voters, while 2.1 million eligible voters were added through Form 6. The final list, released on September 30th, shows a total of 74.1 million voters.
