The Election Commission is investigating approximately 300,000 voters in Bihar after irregularities were detected in their documents during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The affected individuals have received notices, asking them to appear within a week. Officials suggest that the number of cases could potentially rise as document verification continues across various assembly constituencies.
The draft voter list, released on August 1st, includes 72.4 million voters. The Election Commission has mandated that all voters submit one of eleven approved documents by September 1st to verify their eligibility. The commission reported that 98.2% of voters have already complied with this requirement. Notices are being dispatched by EROs this week to those who have failed to submit documents, provided incorrect documentation, or whose eligibility or citizenship is under scrutiny.
