Bihar is gearing up for its 2025 Assembly Elections, with the Election Commission of India signaling the official start of the campaign for the 243-seat Vidhan Sabha. Voters will head to the polls on November 6 and November 11, and the results will be declared on November 14. The political landscape is dominated by two main fronts. The NDA has finalized its seat distribution: JDU and BJP will contest 101 seats apiece, while HAM and LJP (RV) will fight for six seats each. Chirag Paswan’s LJP-RV will participate in 29 constituencies.
On the opposing side, the Mahagathbandhan coalition is actively campaigning to challenge the incumbent NDA. Key constituents like the RJD, Congress, VIP, and Left parties are leaving no stone unturned. The RJD, after failing to achieve a seat-sharing agreement, has fielded 143 candidates and is involved in friendly contests on at least 20 seats. The political arena is further energized by Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, which has announced a plan to contest all 243 assembly seats independently. Of significant interest is Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, which, following its success in the last elections where it won five seats, is set to contest a considerable number of seats this year. This move has sparked discussions regarding potential vote polarization in regions with substantial Muslim populations. The election is poised to be a multi-faceted contest with several key players.
