A 22-year-old architecture student from a private engineering college in Bengaluru has died by suicide. The incident occurred at his home in the Nandaramayyan Palya area on July 11. Preliminary investigations suggest that the student, Arun, may have been subjected to ragging and mental duress within the college environment.
Arun was a final-year Architecture student who had secured his place in college based on his academic achievements. Hailing from Hassan district, he came from a low-income family, with parents who worked as daily wage laborers. He was also a skilled painter, particularly known for his portrait work.
Before his death, Arun recorded a video in which he discussed his emotional state and accused some of his classmates of constant criticism, which he said deeply affected him. He also implicated certain individuals in acts of ragging. The video was circulated within a college WhatsApp group.
The college administration was informed about the video and subsequently contacted Arun’s family. However, by the time the family reached home, Arun had already committed suicide.
The police are currently treating the case as an unnatural death and are awaiting an official complaint from the family to proceed with further inquiries.
