Air India is working towards resuming all its international flights, with a target completion date set for October. This decision follows an incident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on June 12th, which necessitated a period of comprehensive reviews and inspections of the airline’s operations.
CEO Campbell Wilson stated that the process of restoring these flights has already begun, with some international routes relaunching on August 1st. The airline aims to have all suspended flights back in service by the beginning of October. The temporary suspension of flights was a direct response to the events in Ahmedabad.
The DGCA conducted an audit, uncovering over a hundred deficiencies across several Air India flights. The regulatory body issued immediate directives to address and rectify these identified issues.
According to the CEO, all flights that were temporarily grounded are slated to be operational again by October 1st. A gradual resumption of services began on August 1st, with additional routes being reintroduced over time.
Post the Ahmedabad incident, various Air India flights encountered multiple problems, ranging from emergency landings to technical failures. Over eighty flights were canceled in the aftermath. Concurrently, the DGCA initiated comprehensive inspections of all Air India aircraft, a process that has now largely concluded.
On June 12th, Air India flight AI171, departing from Ahmedabad for London, met with a tragic accident minutes after takeoff. This devastating event resulted in the loss of 297 lives, with 241 out of 242 passengers on board perishing.
