The Air India plane crash on Thursday resulted in one survivor: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. He suffered injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet. According to his account, a loud sound was heard about half a minute after the plane took off, followed by the crash. Ramesh had been visiting family in India and was returning to the UK with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, when the incident happened. He described a scene of devastation with wreckage and bodies surrounding him. He was subsequently taken to the hospital. Ramesh has lived in London for the past 20 years with his wife and child. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which carried 242 people, including 12 crew members, crashed soon after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon. The plane came down near the airport perimeter, specifically at the doctors’ hostel. Among the 230 passengers were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese citizens, and 1 Canadian citizen. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. The aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST, issuing a Mayday call before losing communication with ATC. Following departure from Runway 23, the plane crashed outside the airport perimeter, with heavy black smoke visible at the site.
