The DGCA has issued an order for heightened safety protocols for Air India’s Boeing 787-8/9 fleet after a recent accident. The AI-171 Dreamliner, a Boeing 787-8, crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad International Airport en route to Gatwick, London. Of the 242 people on board, there was a single survivor. Captain Sumit Sabharwal, with 8,200 hours of flight experience, and First Officer Clive Kunder, with 1,100 hours, were in control of the aircraft. The DGCA’s preventive measures include mandatory maintenance actions for B787-8/9 aircraft with Genx engines. These measures involve addressing recent snags, conducting pre-flight checks on fuel systems, cabin air systems, electronic engine controls, engine fuel actuators, and hydraulic systems. Takeoff parameters must be reviewed, flight control inspections added during transit, and power assurance checks completed within two weeks. The DGCA will review a report summarizing these inspections.
