In the wake of the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash, which tragically claimed the lives of more than 240 people, a Parliamentary Standing Committee has launched a comprehensive inquiry. The committee has called upon key figures in the aviation sector, including the Civil Aviation Secretary and Boeing executives, to provide explanations. The panel, chaired by Sanjay Jha, is focused on addressing critical issues such as safety protocols, regulatory failures, and overall flight operational procedures. The primary goal is to determine the cause of the crash and evaluate the current aviation safety landscape in India. The committee will also assess Air India and regulatory bodies’ compliance with international safety guidelines. The AAIB is currently analyzing the cockpit voice and flight data recorders with assistance from U.S. experts, aiming to release preliminary findings in the coming weeks, followed by a full report within months. Concurrently, the DGCA is conducting a safety audit of Air India’s fleet, including its Boeing Dreamliners, to ensure airworthiness and adherence to safety standards. The parliamentary panel’s investigation is expected to delve into pilot working hours, aircraft fleet management, and maintenance practices. This probe is designed to ensure accountability and drive changes in air safety policies, reflecting the national grief over the incident.
