The Vice Presidential election, set to take place on September 9th, is generating significant political interest. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has declared its support for the INDIA bloc’s candidate, B. Sudarshan Reddy, a former judge of the Supreme Court.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of AIMIM, announced the party’s support for B. Sudarshan Reddy in the Vice Presidential election via a post on ‘X’.
Owaisi explained that the Telangana Chief Minister’s office reached out to him to seek AIMIM’s support for B. Sudarshan Reddy, the INDIA coalition’s candidate. He confirmed that AIMIM would be backing B. Sudarshan Reddy.
Owaisi, a Member of Parliament, noted in his post that Justice Sudarshan Reddy is a native of Hyderabad and a respected legal scholar. Owaisi shared that he had a personal conversation with Justice Reddy and extended his wishes. He added that supporting Reddy, given his background, would be a source of pride for the party.
The INDIA alliance has put forward Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy as its candidate, who is contending against NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan for the Vice President post. Owaisi’s endorsement is seen as a notable shift in Telangana politics, which could bolster Justice Reddy’s prospects.
Regarding the decision to support Sudarshan Reddy, Owaisi stated that defending constitutional principles and democracy has been paramount in his career. He also suggested that the move aligns with the party’s core values and regional focus. There have been positive responses to Owaisi’s support from Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other political figures.
