Afghanistan’s Acting Interior Minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani, has issued a stark warning to Pakistan, asserting that any aggression against Afghanistan would be a ‘big mistake’. Speaking in Kabul, Haqqani highlighted the unwavering unity of the Afghan people in defending their homeland against any external threat, declaring territorial defense a paramount concern. This strong message comes in the wake of failed diplomatic talks between the two nations in Istanbul.
The fiery address also served as a direct response to recent statements by Pakistan’s Defence Minister, who reportedly warned the Afghan Taliban against provoking Islamabad. Haqqani countered this by emphasizing Afghanistan’s openness to dialogue and understanding, while simultaneously vowing to repel any hostile actions. He drew parallels to Afghanistan’s historical resistance against global powers, indicating a similar resolve in protecting its sovereignty.
Pakistan has consistently pressed Afghanistan to address the presence of the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) within its borders. However, Haqqani firmly stated that this is an internal Pakistani issue. He advised Pakistan to resolve its domestic challenges at home, warning that any attempt to shift these problems into Afghanistan would lead to severe unrest and detrimental consequences for Pakistan.
While acknowledging limitations in military hardware, Haqqani underscored the strength of Afghan determination. He assured that they possess the will and resolve to overcome any adversity and emerge victorious. The minister concluded by reiterating that any aggressive move against Afghanistan would be a significant and costly error. Reports also indicate that Afghanistan is prepared to retaliate against any Pakistani airstrikes on its territory.
