The military representatives of India and China held talks for about 15 hours on the withdrawal of troops and equipment from their borders in eastern Ladakh and reducing tension.
During the talks, the Indian side asked the PLA troops to withdraw completely from Pengong Lake and the Depsang area. The conversation started on Tuesday at 11.30 in the day and ended at two o’clock in the night.
The face-to-face situation for the last 10 weeks has been in many places along the Ladakh border between the two countries, which is unprecedented in itself.
India’s main objective was to divert the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s tanks, cannon and additional forces from the Pengong Lake and Depsang areas before starting negotiations.
Earlier, on June 6, a meeting between the 14 Corps Commander Lt Gen Harinder Singh and the South Xinjiang Military District Chief Major General Liu Lin in East Ladakh was held on the same lines as the Chushul-Moldo border personal meeting.
This is the fourth meeting between the delegates. The third meeting between the two sides was continued for about 12 hours, with India giving a strong message to the PLA soldiers.
The two countries are engaged in military and diplomatic negotiations to ease the tense situation in the border areas.
On Friday, there was a diplomatic meeting between the representatives of the two countries. The meeting was held on 10 July in the India-China Working Mechanism for Consultation and Co-ordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC).
The Indian delegation was led by the Joint Secretary (East Asia) of the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Chinese delegation was led by the Director General of the Border and Oceanographic Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The two sides reiterated the agreements reached between the two Foreign Ministers on 17 June as well as the telephone talks between the two Special Representatives on 5 July, and emphasized that both sides would be able to withdraw from the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Will ensure the troops retreat completely.
