India-China tension: know how PM Narendra Modi’s policy is different from Nehru’sJuly 8, 2020
There has been some softening of the tension in Ladakh Standoff between India and China for the last three months but there is no shortage of arguments. Amidst all this, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar called PM Narendra Modi And praised his visit to Leh with the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He said that in such a situation, the leadership of the country should come forward and encourage the army soldiers. Talk that PM Modi visited Leh’s Forward Post on July 3 and spoke loudly to China (India and China Tension) without name. He had clearly stated that the era of expansionism is over and the era of developmentism is continuing. In his message, the PM made it clear that he also befriends friendships and hostility equally. A few days after this PM’s visit, China withdrew its troops from the disputed area of the Galvan Valley and engaged in an effort to reduce tension.
but there is a difference between PM Modi and former PM Nehru going to the border. The then PM Nehru went to meet the soldiers after losing the war of 1962. Nehru went to the LAC along with the then Defense Minister Yashwant Rao Chavan. Naheru’s policy towards China was strongly criticized by the opposition. In this war, China annexed the land of India. The opposition had targeted Nehru to the then Defense Minister Krishna Menon. After the defeat to China, Nehru’s image of excellence and world leader was dealt a major blow.
Nehru had said that the straw does not grow in Aksai Chin.
Former PM Jawaharlal Nehru even once said on the Chinese occupation that Aksai Chin is a barren area where there is no grass. After his statement, an MP said that if his head does not grow hair, should he also give it to China. Nehru’s statement was severely criticized.
Separate PM Modi’s policy from Nehru
Even though Pawar may have compared Modi and Nehru, PM Modi’s stand in conflict with China was different from that of former PM Nehru. India took a very tough stand after 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in a bloody clash in Galvan. 40 Chinese soldiers were also killed in this clash. Before the meeting of the opposition parties, PM Modi had clearly stated in a meeting with the Chief Ministers of the country on Corona that the martyrdom of the soldiers will not go in vain. He said that our soldiers have been killed by beating and those who raise eyes towards the border of the country will not be spared. PM Modi continued to target China without a name.
Modi active, more soldiers deployed than China on LAC
In the 1962 war, the soldiers had to face a lot of trouble in front of China. They lacked weapons and ammunition. But this time after the Chinese avalanche, India rapidly deployed troops on LAC. More troops were deployed in Ladakh than China. After Galvan’s skirmish, the army was given a free hand. The Air Force and Navy were alerted to the level of war. IAF combat aircraft began to monitor the Ladakh border. India got involved in all the strategic preparations. PM Modi had clearly said that the enemy will get a befitting reply. The dragon showing arrogance on the border was shocked to see the action of India. Construction of road leading to the border in Ladakh intensified
Not only this, the Modi government continued to build roads leading to the Ladakh border. India did not pay any heed to all the threats and bullying of China and continued to build roads to the border. The construction of these roads, strategically important, chilled China.
Modi encircles the dragon on the economic and diplomatic front
Unlike 1962, India this time surrounded China on the strategic, diplomatic and economic front. Modi government banned 59 apps in China, including TikTok, in India, citing Dragon as its location. China was shocked after this action. After the economic crisis, the Chinese speaking became mild. Meanwhile, India was also making vigorous preparations strategically. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh urged early supply of MiG-29 to Anti-Missile Defense System S-400 during his visit to Russia. Russia too immediately agreed to extend all help to its old friend India. Apart from this, India also laid siege to China on the diplomatic front. Many countries of the world including America, France, Britain, Australia came out in support from India. The US has even said that it can provide military help to India against China.
Modi’s visit to Ladakh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a clear message to China by visiting Forward Locations of Ladakh amidst tension in several places in the eastern Ladakh sector. PM Modi going to the border areas and going among the soldiers is a clear message to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) that the Indian government is standing with its soldiers. PM Modi was first briefed by the Army about the current situation, after which he himself spoke to the soldiers posted on the frontline. China was shocked by this visit of PM but PM Modi gave the message clearly. He told China in gestures that expansionism will not work and Indian soldiers are ready with full preparation. After Modi’s visit, backchannel talks suddenly intensified in China and India, and then China withdrew its troops 1.5 kilometers from Galvan Valley.
