Huawei Mate Xs with Kirin 990 5G to launch in March 2020October 24, 2019
uawei launched the Mate X foldable smartphone in China today. The Mate X made its debut at MWC 2019 earlier this year and was meant to go on sale a few months later. However, due to the Galaxy Fold issue, Huawei decided to postpone the release of the Mate X as well. During the launch of the Mate X in China, Huawei also announced its plans to launch the Mate Xs in March 2020 with a Kirin 990 SoC.
Going by the naming scheme, the Mate Xs will likely be influenced by the Mate X. It is expected to look similar to the current foldable phone, but with upgraded internals. While the Mate X is powered by a Kirin 980 SoC, the Mate Xs will feature the new Kirin 990 chipset with an integrated 5G modem.
Huawei first announced the Kirin 990 5G processor at IFA 2019 last month. It It is based on a 7nm EUV process that will also offer better power efficiency compared to the Kirin 980 SoC. Huawei has also confirmed that it will be bringing Kirin 990 5G to India soon, which suggests the Mate 30’s launch in India is imminent. Huawei has previously also confirmed the launch of the Mate X in India as well, but there has been no further information about an exact launch date yet.
Samsung has already launched the Galaxy Fold in India and the company claims a positive response to the foldable smartphone despite its ultra premium price tag of Rs 1,64,999. Mate X in China is priced at 16,999 Yuan (approx Rs 1,70,000). We expect to see more foldable phones in 2020 with Samsung and Huawei leading the charge.
