Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel called upon the players of the state to excel in sports, assuring that government would stand by them and provide all facilities. 

There is no dearth of talents and the state has produced international-level hockey players. Government intends to take hockey to villages so that they can be moulded for national-international level competitions.

Chief Minister was addressing the public dedication ceremony of astro-turf stadium at Bahatarai, the first in Bilaspur district, spread over 49 acres and constructed at Rs 4 crores.

It is the fourth astro-turf stadium of the state. He announced to name the stadium after former minister and hockey player late B. R. Yadav. CM also announced installing flood-lights and spectators’ gallery in the stadium.

He further said around 55 sports trainers have been appointed in 5 revenue divisions. As per new specifications sports grounds will be prepared in each district.

He also inaugurated the 9th Hockey India National Sub-junior Men Competition by hitting a goal. He recalled his days at Durg where he sometimes used to play hockey. Around 22 state teams are participating in the event.
