Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Brijesh Patel on Thursday said “everything” related to hosting the 13th edition of the T20 tournament amid the outbreak of coronavirus in India will be discussed during its Governing Council meeting on Saturday, March 14.
Coronavirus outbreak and its possible impacts are going to be among the primary talking points during the IPL GC meeting. Brijesh Patel, speaking to indiatoday.in, said the GC meeting will also touch upon a lot of other issues in the lead up to IPL 2020.
The new season of IPL is scheduled to kickstart from March 29 with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai in the opening game.
When asked if postponement of IPL 2020 will be discussed at the meeting, Brijesh Patel said: “Yes, the Governing Council is going to meet. There are other issues as well to be discussed in the meeting. We are having a meeting that is why. Everything (related to coronavirus) will be discussed in the meeting.”
A petition was filed by advocate Mohan Babu Agarwal seeking the postponement of the cash-rich tournament by the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to accord urgent hearing on the plea.
A vacation bench of justices UU Lalit and Aniruddha Bose told the petitioner that he could mention the matter for urgent listing before the regular bench on March 16 when the apex court will re-open after the Holi break.
