The horror-comedy genre has become increasingly popular in Indian cinema, with films like ‘Stree,’ ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,’ and ‘Bhediya’ achieving considerable success. Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films is a key player in the resurgence of this genre, with its ‘Horror Comedy Universe’ expanding. ‘Thama’ is the latest addition to this universe, following hits like ‘Stree,’ ‘Bhediya,’ ‘Munjya,’ and ‘Stree 2.’
‘Thama,’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has announced an exciting update. The teaser for the film will be launched on August 19, 2025.
The announcement from the production team stated, “Independence Day Special! The No. 1 Hindi film Stree 2 turns 1 today. To celebrate, Dinesh Vijan expands the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe with #THAMA. The World of Thama unveils Tuesday, Aug 19 your first glimpse at the sarvashaktishaali villain set to redefine fear. The film storms into cinemas this Diwali 2025. Brace yourself this chapter is a love story, wilder and deadlier than anything you’ve seen before.”
The film also features Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in supporting roles. Though plot details are scarce, ‘Thama’ is reportedly a vampire story.
Other upcoming films in the Maddock Horror Universe include Shakti Shalini, Bhediya 2, Chamunda, Stree 3, Maha Munjya, Pehla Mahayudh and Doosra Mahayudh. Kiara Advani is rumored to lead ‘Shakti Shalini,’ while Varun Dhawan will return for ‘Bhediya 2,’ although Kriti Sanon’s involvement is uncertain. Alia Bhatt may also join the universe with ‘Chamunda.’
