Sunny Deol is currently involved in the upcoming film ‘Border 2,’ set for release on January 26th. Simultaneously, he is also working on ‘Lahore 1947,’ directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, produced by Aamir Khan, and starring Preity Zinta. During an interview, Deol shared details about the historical drama ‘Lahore 1947,’ revealing the origins of the project.
In an interview with Zoom, Sunny Deol explained how the idea for ‘Lahore 1947’ came about. He said that he and Rajkumar Santoshi had discussed the subject for years, attempting to bring it to life, especially after the success of ‘Gadar.’ Aamir Khan expressed his interest in the project, and eventually, everyone agreed to participate.
Sunny further elaborated on the film, highlighting its emotional subject matter and the depth of the characters. He described it as a drama adaptation, expressing hopes for an early release. The film is based on Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni,’ which portrays the backdrop of the Partition. The story follows a Muslim family relocating from Lucknow to Lahore and being assigned a haveli previously owned by a Hindu family.
‘Lahore 1947’ features a cast including Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol. It is anticipated that the makers plan to release this film later this year. In addition to this project, Sunny Deol will also be seen in the sequel to Border. ‘Border 2,’ directed by JP Dutta, will feature Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in leading roles and is scheduled for release on January 22, 2026.
