The film ‘Ufff Yeh Siyapaa’ presents itself as a silent movie, a choice that harks back to the precedent set by Kamal Haasan’s ‘Pushpak.’ However, this film fails to capture the essence of visual storytelling. Sohum Shah, usually a capable actor, gives a lackluster performance as a character whose behavior troubles his wife, played by Nushrratt Bharuccha. Bharuccha’s portrayal lacks nuance, with the actress seemingly going through the motions. The film’s plot includes a murder, with Bharuccha’s character being the victim, which does not elevate the story. Despite the absence of spoken words, the background music, composed by A R Rahman, is overly prominent. Director G Ashok’s approach neglects the fundamental principle of silent films: the power of visuals. The actors’ performances are not able to fill the void of the spoken word. Nora Fatehi’s character is relegated to a stereotypical role. The film’s attempts at humor fall flat, and even appearances from actors like Omkar Kapoor and Sharib Hashmi fail to rescue the film from its shortcomings.
