*Oho Enthan Baby*, a Tamil film directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, features characters designed for personal growth. The narrative explores themes of toxicity and redemption, showcasing men who exhibit destructive behaviors before finding a path to change.
The film focuses on characters striving to better themselves. The plot, created by Mukesh Manjunath and Sarada Ramanathan, seems deliberately constructed. However, the core idea of addressing toxic behavior remains despite attempts to make the story too neat.
Ashwin (played by Rudra), a young aspiring filmmaker, is at the center of the story. His parents’ tumultuous relationship serves as a backdrop. Ashwin shares his own romantic experiences with actor Vishnu Vishal (playing himself), adding a meta layer to the narrative.
The film-within-a-film concept allows for the inclusion of familiar plot points. The climax, where Ashwin pursues Meera (Mithila Palkar) to Manipal to win her back, is reminiscent of *Jab We Met*. Yet, this familiarity does not detract from the film’s charm.
The film’s storytelling structure involves derivative elements, enriching the overall experience. The characters, though flawed, possess a relatable quality. Ashwin, driven by his past experiences, stands out, his journey towards self-improvement being the most compelling aspect.
The film opens with Ashwin’s early infatuation with Raveena (Vaibhavi Tandle). The reason for Raveena’s actions, which involve leading Ashwin on while being involved with another person, isn’t fully explained.
The Raveena subplot is short-lived, while the Meera narrative arc drives the plot. Some of Ashwin’s emotional moments feel forced, but the characters’ depth allows them to break free from the constraints of the script.
In the end, the film is agreeable, although not entirely groundbreaking.
