Ajay Devgn, a celebrated figure in Bollywood, has an impressive filmography. Amidst his successes, there are also instances where his films haven’t performed well commercially. Some movies struggled to even recover their production costs. This piece delves into a particular film of Devgn’s, released eight years prior, that faced such challenges.
Devgn began his Bollywood journey with a successful debut and is now a top-tier actor. He has delivered several solo hits and been part of various ensemble casts. The film highlighted here was a multi-starrer. Besides Devgn, it included four other well-known actors, yet it didn’t capture the audience’s attention as expected.
The film, ‘Baadshaho,’ was released in 2017. It featured Ajay Devgn alongside Emraan Hashmi, Vidyut Jammwal, Ileana D’Cruz, and Esha Gupta. Sharad Kelkar and Sanjay Mishra also played roles in the movie. In ‘Baadshaho,’ Ileana D’Cruz played the role of Maharani Gitanjali, while Ajay played Bhawani Singh.
The story was written by Rajat Arora and directed by Milan Luthria. The makers invested a considerable 85 crore rupees in this project. However, the film’s earnings in India were only 78.10 crore rupees, leading to its failure at the box office.
Devgn’s 2025 releases include ‘Raid 2,’ which was a box office success. Following that, ‘Son of Sardar 2’ was released but didn’t match the original’s success. Devgn is now set to appear in ‘De De Pyaar De 2,’ scheduled for release in November 2025.
