The vibrant world of Punjabi cinema and music is grappling with the untimely demise of actor-singer Rajvir Jawanda. He passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged battle for life, following a devastating road accident on September 27th. Jawanda had been on a ventilator at Mohali’s Fortis Hospital for eleven days.
Paying homage to the departed artist, global Punjabi icon Diljit Dosanjh shared a touching tribute on his Instagram. While touring in Australia for his ‘Aura Tour 2025,’ Dosanjh posted a serene picture of Jawanda at the Golden Temple, simply captioned ‘Waheguru.’ He had previously appealed to fans for prayers when Jawanda was hospitalized.
The accident that led to Jawanda’s critical condition occurred as he was riding his motorcycle near the Pinjore-Nalagarh Road. A sudden appearance of a bull caused him to swerve, lose control, and fall onto the highway. The incident resulted in grave head and spinal injuries, placing him on life support.
Rajvir Jawanda carved a niche for himself starting with his 2014 album ‘Munda Like Me.’ His 2016 track ‘Kali Jawanda Di’ brought him widespread recognition, and further success followed with hits like ‘Muqabla’ and ‘Kangana.’ He also lent his voice to popular songs such as ‘Patiala Shahi Pag’ and ‘Landlord.’ His acting career took off in 2018 with ‘Subedar Joginder Singh,’ and he later starred in ‘Jind Jaan’ and ‘Mindo Tehsildarni.’
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of Punjab conveyed his condolences, lamenting the loss of a talented artist whose voice had captured the hearts of many. He prayed for peace for Jawanda’s soul and strength for his loved ones.
