Priyanshu Chhetri, the actor who gained recognition for his part as Babu Chhetri in Amitabh Bachchan’s 2022 film ‘Jhund,’ has tragically passed away in Nagpur. The incident, believed to be a murder, took place early Wednesday morning after a dispute turned violent. The film ‘Jhund’ itself was a powerful narrative based on the transformation of slum youth through football in Nagpur.
Law enforcement officials have arrested Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, a friend of the deceased, in connection with the killing. According to police reports, Chhetri and Sahu were known to consume alcohol together regularly. On Tuesday night, they reportedly gathered at an abandoned location in the Jaripatka district for a drinking session. During their time together, an argument reportedly erupted, during which Chhetri allegedly issued threats to Sahu.
Following the heated exchange and Chhetri falling asleep, Sahu is accused of resorting to extreme violence. Authorities were quickly on the scene after being notified, and the Crime Branch successfully apprehended the suspect, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, within a mere six hours. Sahu is known to the police, with prior cases registered against him. Further investigations revealed that Chhetri also had a history of minor legal issues, including a previous arrest for alleged theft.
Recent reports suggest that Chhetri and Sahu were involved in a financial disagreement, which might have fueled the fatal altercation. This incident cuts short the promising career of a young actor who, like many of his co-stars in ‘Jhund,’ hailed from a disadvantaged background and found a significant opportunity through the critically acclaimed movie.
